My Top 5 Finishes of 2022

Pictures of my top 5 finishes of 2022

Can you believe it’s the end of 2022 already??

I always use the week between Christmas and New Year as a time of reflection. As part of this process, I went back through my photos to get an overall feel of my quilting in 2022. I finished 22 projects this year, both large and small. It seems the running theme of my year was experimentation: I tried new techniques and branched out with my own designs. After a difficult time, I picked out my top 5 favorite quilting projects of the year. All of them have patterns available for free or for purchase, so if you feel inspired, just follow the links. Maybe one of these makes will end up on your list for 2023!

#5: The Wave Hello Quilt

My favorite part of this quilt is that it comes together fast! It uses 2-1/2” strips, so it’s precut friendly, but even if you don’t have precuts on hand, cutting the strips with a slotted strip ruler, like the Stripology ruler, is quick. Those lovely color pallete roll-ups from Kona will give a nice gradient effect to the quilt. This is a FREE quilt pattern, so get yours today by signing up for my email list.

#4: The Sleepy Fox Zipper Pouch

This piece was commissioned by a very close friend. She chose the aqua background and gold zipper, which are just joyful touches to the Sleepy Fox FPP block. I changed the scale on my printer to shrink the FPP block and used the designer’s suggested colors for the fox. The inside of the pouch is just as pretty, lined with a floral print from AGF’s Bookish line by Sharon Holland. Overall, I’m just delighted by how beautifully this project came together!

#3: The Catherine Quilt

This quilt is easier to make than it looks! The biggest skill you’ll need is organization. There are freezer paper templates, but it’s not foundation paper piecing. The designer has several different color palettes to choose from, both in the pattern and in separate resources on her site, but she also tips on choosing your own colors. I picked my own palette to make a unique and very green gem. I also extended the background to make a slightly larger throw quilt. If you dig in, I’ll warn you that cutting the fabric took me much longer than piecing the quilt top!

#2: The Ascend Quilt

Pattern by: Sweet Pixel Quilts

This quilt is near and dear to my heart because it is the first pattern I released for sale in my shop. The upward-pointing shapes have been a concept floating around in my head for a while now, and it felt great to manifest it into not only several versions of the quilt, but also a pattern so others can play with the concept, too! The quilt is constructed using foundation paper pieced blocks and would be a great first project for quilters who want to learn the technique. You can purchase the pattern in my shop, or read more about it in this blog post.

#1: The Candy Corn Picnic Quilt

And here it is, my favorite quilt of the year is a Halloween quilt! I love everything about this quilt: the adorable candy corns, the AGF Sweet ‘n Spookier fabric, the check pattern of the blocks, the spiderweb quilting, the colors, and the extra large throw size! I spent all of Fall snuggled under this quilt. The pattern for the quilt top can be found in this blog post and requires the Candy Corn Charm FPP block from my shop.

In each of my finishes, I learned something new or stretched my design skills. I hope to continue growing in this way in the new year because I already have several ambitious projects planned or in the works. No matter where you are in your quilting journey, take some time to reflect on your makes from 2022, and then think of all your potential for 2023.

Happy New Year! Happy Quilting!
